The Game
How to play.
In Artful you play as an art dealer competing with fellow collectors to build the most valuable collection.
01 | Bid for Artworks
Compete in auctions to acquire new pieces for your collection. Every round matters, and even the most modest opening bid has a chance.
02 | Read the Market
News Cards impact your artworks in different ways. Most will drive up their value. But beware, some stories may call your collection's authenticity into question…
03 | Trade and Deceive
Swap artworks with other players, whether they like it or not. Bluff, flatter, and misdirect to rid yourself of dubious pieces and bag a masterpiece or two.
04 | Secure Your Collection
Lock away your strongest pieces to protect them from other players. But be careful, because once in your vault, their value can no longer increase.
05 | Build the Most Valuable Collection
When the game ends, the true value of each painting is revealed. Did you invest with your head or your heart?
The Art
Celebrating creativity.
When we built the first prototype of Artful we started with established masterpieces. Famous works, instantly recognisable. It looked beautiful. But it didn't quite connect how I'd hoped.The soul of Artful is the art itself. And I really wanted it to really connect with the majority of people who know very little about art. So I asked the people around me, my friends and family, to make something. And they did!Only in Artful does their work sit alongside pieces that have hung in the world's greatest galleries for hundreds of years.
The artists
Everyone is an artist.
I hosted friends at sip and paint evenings. Good food, plenty of fizz and excellent company. No experience required, just a canvas and an imagination. In return, I asked to use their work in the game. I'm happy to say they agreed to the terms!

Each piece has been scanned into Artful as a high-quality asset. Artwork created around a kitchen table in South West London on a cold Saturday afternoon is now available for people to collect, bid for and fight over all over the world.

The Story
Inspired by a Masterpiece.
"Games nights were a big deal at home growing up. Sitting around the kitchen table playing round after round of Rummikub, or begging my parents to let us set up Mouse Trap, knowing full well that at least one part was likely missing or broken. Games were the perfect excuse to spend quality time together, and represent a rich source of many enduring memories from my childhood. That passion for games has never left me.Five years ago I met Alice, who quickly became a dear friend, in-part due to our shared love for a somewhat niche board game that we both grew up playing. 'Masterpiece', a game about building a collection of famous works of art, was designed by Jeffrey Breslow and first released by Parker Brothers in 1970. It is the primary source of inspiration for Artful. Yet despite our shared love for Masterpiece it took us until last New Years Eve to actually sit down and play together. And when we did I was in for a bit of a shock- how dare they play different rules?!What came next was four months of designing, play-testing and optimising a game which takes all the things I love about Masterpiece, but updated for a 2026 audience.It's now almost time to share it with the world on Kickstarter, and I really, really hope you like it!"Pete, designer of Artful x
